Insulation can be installed in any season — it's not weather-dependent the way roofing or exterior painting is. That said, timing your project can still save you money and hassle.
Spring and fall: the sweet spot
Mild temperatures make attic and crawlspace work more comfortable for installers, which can mean a faster job. It's also before the peak-demand rush, so scheduling tends to be easier and lead times shorter.
Before winter hits
If your main goal is lower heating bills and fewer cold spots this winter, the ideal window is late summer through early fall — before the first cold snap, and before every insulation contractor in the GTA gets booked solid for the season.
Summer has an upside too
Better attic insulation and air sealing don't just keep heat in during winter — they keep it out during summer, reducing how hard your air conditioner has to work. If you're dealing with a hot upstairs every summer, that's a sign worth addressing before the next heat wave, not after.
Why "right now" is often the right answer
The honest answer is that the best time to insulate is whenever the problem is bothering you — a cold room, a high bill, an upcoming renovation. Waiting for a "perfect" season mostly just means living with the problem longer. Rebate programs also run on their own calendars (see our current Ontario rebates), so it's worth checking what's available now rather than assuming it'll still be there later.
