Ontario Insulation Rebates: What's Available

← Back to all articles

Insulation rebates exist because upgrading a home's insulation is one of the most cost-effective ways to cut energy use — utilities and governments would rather subsidize the upgrade than pay for the wasted energy. Here's a plain-language look at what's currently on the table in Ontario.

Home Renovation Savings Program

This is the main multi-upgrade rebate program, delivered through Enbridge Gas and currently extended through November 30, 2026. Combine two or more eligible upgrades — attic, wall, basement or crawlspace insulation, and air sealing — and you can qualify for a rebate up to $5,000 on a natural-gas-heated home, or up to $10,000 on an electrically heated home.

It requires a home energy assessment both before and after the work (a $600 rebate applies toward that cost), which gives you documented proof of the improvement — useful for resale value too.

How the amounts are calculated

Individual rebate amounts depend on your starting R-value and how much you improve it — for example, taking an attic from R-12 or less up to R-50+ qualifies for a higher rebate than a smaller improvement. We've laid out the full breakdown, upgrade by upgrade, on our Ontario rebates page.

A note on accuracy

Rebate programs, eligibility criteria and dollar amounts can and do change. The figures above reflect the program as currently published — we always confirm exactly what applies to your specific project at the time of your free estimate, rather than relying on numbers that may be out of date by the time you're ready to book the work.
